CVA CORE VALUES

Our core values are the foundation of who we are as an organization. It is what we believe and what we follow to create the best atmosphere for our athletes and their future.

  • To train our young athletes to excel at the highest levels of practice and competition through Encouragement, Motivation, and Positive Reinforcement.
  • To provide the highest quality coaching for every team at every level.
  • To maintain consistent coaching and training philosophies throughout the club from our youngest athletes to our oldest.
  • Mentor our student-athletes about the timelines, rules, and guidelines of the collegiate recruiting process.

CVA MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

Mission: Through our teaching, training, and core values, the mission of the Columbus Volleyball Academy is to be regarded as one of the highest quality juniors volleyball clubs locally, regionally, and nationally. We will instill these guiding principles in our student-athletes. We will strive to help them develop and showcase their talents, thereby preparing them to succeed at the next level.

Philosophy: CVA is intent on competing with the top teams locally, regionally, and nationally. We are a detail oriented club that will not allow our athletes to be treated as numbers. All of our coaches have been highly trained and are very successful in their coaching careers. Our attention to detail and unique position specific training methods will allow each player to reach their fullest potential.

GENERAL RULES

A maximum of 3 players per school for grades 7-12 may play on the same team. School coaches may not coach at the same level that they coached during the school season. Each team will have one certified coach, as required by OVR.

Clubs divisions consist of Regional, American (13s - 17s), and National. CVA Pickerington will offer Regional (10s - 18s) and American (13s - 17s). Boys teams will be offered for 14-18 year olds.

Following tryouts, players selected will be offered a position on a team within 3 days of tryouts. Alternates will also be contacted. Within 10 days, the player must submit a written commitment and deposit of 50 % of one season to PAVC if they plan to play for the club. See commitment day schedule.

TEAMS

At this time PAVC plans to offer both a Winter and Spring season. Teams will have 9-10 players on them.

Winter Season practices will begin in December with tournaments beginning by late January to early February.

Spring Season practices will begin mid February with tournaments beginning by mid March.

Each team will be scheduled for 7- 8 tournaments. I day =1 tournament. If for some reason the number of tournaments is reduced below 7, (canceled, less available for younger age groups)  individuals will be reimbursed accordingly. It is our intention to provide teams in each age group, though tryouts will dictate the number and age level of teams offered.

TOURNAMENTS

The number of scheduled tournaments varies with age and type of team. 1 day equals 1 tournament for scheduling purposes.

Girls
10 - 11 year olds     4-5 tournament days
12 year olds            6-7 tournament days
13-18 regional         7-8 tournament days
14-17 American    12-14 tournament days (split season players divide by 2)

Boys
14 year olds             6 tournament days
16-18 year olds        8 tournament days

If for any reason the club reduces that number of tournaments stated previously, members will be reimbursed their share of that tournament fee entry. Plan to spend the entire day. Coolers are not allowed in facilities. Please familiarize yourself with tournament rules as well as OVR rules. You are expected to follow them. Clubs may be fined for rules violations. Fines that are imposed will be passed to the individual teams, coaches, and or specific players. When not playing, team members will be working ( line, score table etc. ). This includes the games that may occur after you are no longer in tournament play. Your player is expected to remain at tournaments until they have been excused by the coach.

FACILITIES

At this time Tollgate Elementary and Middle School will be our primary facility for practices. If additional facilities are needed they will be in Pickerington or the surrounding area. Practices may be held in other school districts based on coach access.

PRACTICES

Teams will be scheduled a practice slot of 1 1/2 to 2 hour blocks depending on age group and availability. Practice times and days will be communicated by the coach as well as season schedules. Practice times are start times not arrival times.

Players will not be required to purchase a new ball as part of their club fee, but are expected to bring one to practice. In order to get the maximum benefit from you club experience, missing practice is highly discouraged! Please to not "over book" you daughter and expect to get the most out of this season. We do realize that conflicts arise and should you anticipate that happening please discuss it immediately with your coach.

Training schedules will be determined and communicated with players.

UNIFORMS

Two jerseys and 1 pair of spandex (shorts for boys) will be provided as your team uniform. Your tryout t-shirt will become a practice t-shirt. Players are expected to provide their own socks, knee pads, volleyball shoes, etc. Knee pads and socks are to all be white unless the entire team agrees to the same socks and black knee pads. This requires coach and club director approval.

Unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate behavior by any individual player, coach, or related club member, will not be tolerated. Club members are to act responsibly, be positive and supportive to others within the PAVC and respect those outside the PAVC.  Issues involving behavior should be sent immediately to the club director for a Grievance committee hearing.

PLAYING TIME

Playing time is determined by attitude, attendance, effort, and player performance. Playing time decisions are left entirely up to the coach. There is no equal playing time guaranteed. With that being said, placing 9-10 players on a team should increase the opportunity to earn playing time.

GRIEVANCES

This follows playing time since most issues usually arise from there. The proper channels to follow are outlined below:

  • Player discusses any issue with coach
  • Parent discusses any issue with coach (not before/after tournament, use the 24 hour rule and then contact the coach)
  • Call Club Director requesting a hearing with the Grievance Committee

The Grievance Committee and the Rules Panel will be comprised of 3 individuals, named at a later date. No coaches will be selected for the grievance committee.

COST

See cost & fees page.

There are no refunds. You are financially liable for the total cost upon written commitment to any club. There have been situations regarding injuries that we have reimbursed a portion of the fee, but there is no guarantee of that up front.

Note: All fees are due prior to participation in tournaments.
